About The Opportunity

The position will involve all aspects of business application design, deployment and associated support activities working in a small, flexible and highly motivated team across Wheels & Structures globally.The IT Business Solutions Specialist will work closely with the IT Managers and Business functions at each site and centrally to design build and maintain applications which underpin the business needs.

The role in some cases will work closely with external partners to deliver solutions and provide additional expertise and skill. There will be also close interaction with Global Infrastructure team to ensure the secure, reliable, performant and robust provisioning of any business applications.

This position will be required to gain good understanding of the Wheels and Structures business and objectives of key business stakeholders, so that the right IT Solutions can be proposed.

The role may include specialisms in terms of technology, business intelligence or business process execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Through elicitation requirements from key stakeholders, defines scope and business priorities for changes to current systems and new projects.

  • Selects appropriate techniques for the elicitation of detailed requirements taking into account the nature of the required changes, for example workshops, brainstorming, 1x1s etc

  • Analyses, specifies and documents business requirements as required. Analyses them for adherence to business objectives and for consistency, challenging positively as appropriate.

  • Works with stakeholders to prioritise requirements for new projects and changes. Ensures that effective relationships are built and maintained with the business teams.

  • Estimates costs, timescales and resource requirements for the successful delivery of the project(s) to agreed terms of reference.

  • Prepares and maintains realistic project schedules (showing tasks and dependencies) and quality plans and tracks all activities against them, providing regular and accurate reports to management and project stakeholders as appropriate.

  • Specifies user and system interfaces, and translates logical designs into physical designs taking account of applications environment, performance & security requirements and existing systems. Produces designs and documents all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping where appropriate.

  • Designs solutions using agreed standards and tools, to achieve well-engineered results

  • Plans, designs and conducts tests of applications and system changes; corrects errors and re-tests to achieve an error-free result.

  • Monitors application systems for which responsible by regular scrutiny of reports from the applications software, systems software or feedback from users. Notes problems and identifies performance trends. Takes corrective action to improve performance and to avoid problems arising.

  • Performs scheduled application maintenance, such as yearend activities, patch application and supports user access management, as required.

  • Supports the selection of development toolset and W&S Applications landscape.

  • Identifies suppliers and manages communication with them, to ensure successful delivery of products and services required by the business.

  • Acts as routine contact point between organisation and suppliers. Attends regular routine operational supplier review meetings.

  • Ability to effectively deliver oral and written reports and presentations.

  • Prepare clear and concise documentation. Supports training and deployment of new solutions.

  • With a global remit, occasional working outside normal UK hours or travel maybe required. In return a flexible working environment is available.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills:

  • Educated at least to “A” level standard or equivelant with a recognised IT qualification at this level or above.Together with at least 5 GCSE’s at Grade “C” or above including English and Mathematics.

  • Knowledge of application design principles.

  • Appropriate technical skills in required development environments, and a aptitude to learn new technologies.

  • Excellent organisational, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Excellent listening skills and the ability to understand the needs of the business customer and business area.

  • Be proactive, anticipating opportunities for service improvement and taking appropriate actions

  • Shows attention to detail, applying appropriate quality standards to all tasks undertaken and ensuring that nothing is overlooked

  • Deals effectively with unexpected situations in a timely manner, taking advantage of opportunities and overcoming problems

  • Works collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal.

  • Good analytical skills, can acquire a good understanding of a problem or situation by breaking it down systematically into its component parts and identifying the relationships between these parts.

  • Has a high level of discretion, and is trustworthy of having access to potentially sensitive information.
