About The Opportunity

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Under minimal supervision, operates CNC Tool and Cutter Grinder to support the manufacturing and sharpening of all selected cutting tools.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiate machine start-up procedures and operate machines to its full potential. Load and manage programs, maintain start-up log, document machine settings and insure fire protection system is in working condition.

  • Build, dress and calibrate all wheel packs as required. Through visual inspection insure the balance, safety and usability of all wheel packs prior to use. Store wheel packs in a protected location when not in use.

  • Sort and inspect cutters, determine usability, plan required sequence of machine events to minimize machine time and wheel wear, “chemical-etch identify” cutting tools as required, package and protect cutting tool and insure safe storage.

  • Determine and alter machine offsets, alter programs as required to maintain cutter geometry. Determine wear, and alter wheel pack alignment as required to maintain cutter geometry.

  • Assemble and align machine attachments as required by set-ups, to within .0001. Insure all machine attachments are cleaned, lightly oiled and stored in a safe place when not in use, including collets, arbors and wheel packs.

  • Monitor machine operating systems and fluid levels. Insure the spindle cooling system is in working order, insure fire safety and wheel life by maintaining machine coolant levels and making adjustments to coolant manifold as required to insure proper coolant flow to wheel packs and work piece. Request maintenance as required.

  • Completes Operator Acceptance Program and Title 8 of the California Code for Fire Extinguisher Training or equivalent. Maintain activity log and documentation as required to track cost, quality and throughput.

Key Responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma, vocational tech or apprenticeship preferable or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires 2 years CNC tool cutter grinder experience, preferably in an aerospace environment with a full working knowledge of cutting tool geometry. Must be able to use required measuring devices and hold tolerances of .0001. Also requires the ability to read cutter and part blueprint. Must be able to read and understand written instruction and follow verbal instructions.
