About The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join GKN Aerospace, at it's flagship branch in Filton, Bristol. Filton is a £350m business unit within GKN Aerospace(part of Melrose PLC), manufacturing metallic wing structures and machined components.

The successful candidate will lead a team of 16 covering; reporting (both internal and external), inventory, receivables, payables, cash management, budgeting, forecasting, FX (significant USD trading), corporate governance and business partnering through decision support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day to day management of the team of 17 (4 direct reports), ensuring adequate measures are in place for holiday / sickness cover and development plans are in place to enable fulfilment of potential for all team members

  • Reporting in accordance with Divisional and Group requirements and deadlines re:

  • Foreign exchange

  • VAT

  • Corporation tax

  • Programme impairment reviews

  • Financial performance and forecasts

  • Finance/ Decision support and reporting (to provide analysis and understanding to support decision making throughout the business) re:

  • Operational performance / reviews (including issuing a daily KPI dashboard)

  • Programme performance / reviews

  • Commercial negotiations with customers and suppliers

  • Capex proposals

  • Production of monthly forecasts, the annual budgets and annual strategic plan.

  • Continuous improvement of the financial systems and business intelligence to enhance the business reporting and efficiency.

  • Ensure a robust financial control environment is maintained and documented in the FRCA (Financial Reporting Controls Assessment). The FRCA to be reviewed at least annually to ensure still fit for purpose.

  • Oversee SAP GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance) process adherence ensuring monthly reporting of results and escalation / remedy of instances of non-compliance.

  • Co-ordinate External Audits, Corporate Audits, GRiP (Group Reporting Integrity Procedures) reviews and Divisional Balance Sheet reviews.

  • Deputise for the Finance Director – Filton & Western Approach as required.

Qualification and Skills- Formal Qualifications


Professional accounting qualification (ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA)

Specific Functional Capability, Knowledge and Skills Required


  • Minimum 5 years PQE with track record of progression

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS & Financial Reporting

  • Good understanding of financial controls and processes

  • Financial forecasting and planning

  • Managing and developing teams

  • A natural drive to improve upon the current state and possession of a solutions orientated mindset

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work within a cross functional environment with all levels within the business

  • Working within a fast-paced UK Plc. environment– ability to prioritise and manage stakeholder expectations is critical


Experience of working within the manufacturing sector
